പൊളിയുന്ന പദ്ധതികള്‍, പൊലിയുന്ന സ്വപ്‌നങ്ങള്‍ ...അമേരിക്കയിലെ ക്നാനായ പള്ളികള്‍...

2006 ഒക്ടോബര്‍ മാസത്തിലാണ് ഇന്ത്യക്ക് വെളിയില്‍ ക്നാനായക്കാരുടെ സ്വന്തമായ ഒരു പള്ളി കൂദാശ ചെയ്യപ്പെട്ടത്. പക്ഷെ ആ പള്ളിയുടെ കൂദാശയ്ക്ക് മുമ്പ്തന്നെ ചില ക്നാനായ വൈദികരുടെ അതിസാമര്‍ത്ഥ്യം മൂലം ഒറ്റകുടുംബത്തിലെ അംഗങ്ങളെപ്പോലെ സ്വരുമയില്‍ (“തനിമയില്‍ ഒരുമയില്‍, വിശ്വാസനിറവില്‍” എന്ന പ്രയോഗം അന്നുണ്ടായിരുന്നില്ല) കഴിഞ്ഞുകൂടിയിരുന്ന ചിക്കാഗോയിലെ ക്നാനായസമൂഹം പല ചേരികളിലും ഗ്രൂപ്പുകളിലും ആയിരുന്നു. പണ്ടൊക്കെ ഒരു പ്രദേശത്തെ ജനം ഒത്തുകൂടി വളരെ കഷ്ടപ്പെട്ട് അരമനയുടെ അനുവാദം വര്‍ഷങ്ങള്‍കൊണ്ട് യാചിച്ചുവാങ്ങി, ചില സ്ഥലങ്ങളിലെങ്കിലും ഓല ഷെഡ്ഡില്‍ തുടങ്ങി, കാലാന്തരത്തില്‍ നല്ല പള്ളികള്‍ പണിയുകയായിരുന്നു. അന്നൊക്കെ നിര്‍മ്മാണചെലവിനുള്ള പണവും, പള്ളി പണിയാനുള്ള അനുവാദവും പ്രശ്നമായിരുന്നു. ഇവിടെ ചിക്കാഗോയില്‍ ഇതൊന്നും ആയിരുന്നില്ല പ്രശ്നങ്ങള്‍.

പള്ളി കൂദാശ ചെയ്യാനെത്തുന്ന തിരുമേനിമാര്‍

ചികാഗോയിലെ ആദ്യത്തെ പള്ളിയ്ക്ക് പിന്നാലെ, ചിക്കാഗോയില്‍ തന്നെ മറ്റൊരു പള്ളിയും, അമേരിക്കയിലെ മറ്റു പല നഗരങ്ങളിലും കൂടുതല്‍ പള്ളികളും വാങ്ങുവാനുള്ള ശ്രമങ്ങള്‍ യുദ്ധകാലാടിസ്ഥാനത്തില്‍ ആരംഭിച്ചു. ഭൂരിപക്ഷത്തിന്റെ എതിര്‍പ്പുകളെ തൃണവല്ഗണിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് പള്ളി വാങ്ങലുമായി കോട്ടയം അരമനയുടെയും അങ്ങാടിയത്ത് പിതാവിന്റെയും മൌനാനുവാദത്തോടെ അമേരിക്കയിലെ വൈദികര്‍ മുന്നോട്ടു പോയി. പല നഗരങ്ങളിലും അത്മായകൂട്ടായ്മകളുടെ പേരിലും ഉടമസ്ഥതയിലും കമ്മ്യൂണിറ്റി സെന്റര്‍ ഉണ്ടായിരുന്നു. മുമ്പ് വീട്ടില്‍ വന്നുപോലും സസന്തോഷം കുര്‍ബാന ചൊല്ലിയിരുന്ന ക്നാനായ വൈദികര്‍ അത്തരം സെന്ററുകളില്‍ വിശുദ്ധ കുര്‍ബാന ചൊല്ലാന്‍ വിസമ്മതിക്കുന്നത് കണ്ടു ജനം അന്ധാളിച്ചു. ഒരു പള്ളി വാങ്ങിയാല്‍ ഉണ്ടാകുന്ന ചെലവിനെക്കുറിച്ചു ചിന്തിച്ചു അവര്‍ ഉല്‍ക്കണ്ഠാകുലരായി. അവരുടെ വികാരത്തിന് പുല്ലുവില പോലും കല്‍പ്പിക്കാതെ അള്‍ത്താരയില്‍ നിന്നും ശാപവചനങ്ങള്‍ പുറപ്പെട്ടു.

പള്ളിവാങ്ങലിനെ എതിര്‍ത്തവരെ ലുബ്ദന്മാരെന്നും, സഭാവിരോധികളെന്നും, ഈശ്വരനിഷേധികലെന്നും വരെ മുന്ദ്രയടിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുള്ള പ്രസംഗങ്ങള്‍ പൊടിപൊടിച്ചു. പാരിഷ് ബുള്ളറ്റിനുകളും ബ്ലോഗുകളും പ്രചരണോപാധികളാക്കി. പള്ളിയുടെ ഉടമസ്ഥതയെക്കുറിച്ചുള്ള സംശയങ്ങളും ചോദ്യങ്ങളും നുണകളുടെ പെരുമഴകൊണ്ട് ഇല്ലാതാക്കി.

കടം വാങ്ങിയും, പള്ളിവാങ്ങലിനെ അനുകൂലിച്ചവരില്‍ നിന്നും അന്യായമായി തുക ഈടാക്കിയും നോഹ പെട്ടകം പണിത അത്ര ധൃതിയില്‍ അമേരിക്കന്‍ നഗരങ്ങളില്‍ പള്ളികള്‍ വാങ്ങികൂട്ടി. ഹൂസ്റ്റണ്‍ പോലുള്ള നഗരങ്ങളില്‍, പള്ളി വാങ്ങാന്‍ അനുകൂലിച്ചവരില്‍ ചിലരെങ്കിലും ചെയ്തുപോയ അബദ്ധത്തില്‍ പാശ്ചാത്തപിക്കുന്നു; എതിര്‍ത്തവര്‍ കൈകൊട്ടി ചിരിക്കുന്നു. ന്യൂ യോര്‍ക്കില്‍ പള്ളി വാങ്ങലിനായി ഒരു ഗ്രൂപ്പിന്റെ ശക്തമായ ശ്രമവും, ഒപ്പം മറു വശത്തുനിന്നും ശക്തമായ പ്രതിരോധവും നടക്കുന്നു.

ഇതെല്ലാം ചെയ്യുമ്പോള്‍ ചിലര്‍  കണക്കുകൂട്ടി – “ഇവന്റെയൊക്കെ മക്കള്‍ കല്യാണപ്രായമായി വരികയാണ്. ഞങ്ങളുടെ കുറി ഇല്ലാതെ ആ കല്യാണം നടക്കുന്നത് ഒന്ന് കാണണം. എല്ലാ അവന്റെയും പേരില്‍ കുടിശിഖ എഴുതി ഇട്ടിട്ടുണ്ട്. കുറിക്കു വരുമ്പോള്‍ മുട്ടിന്മേല്‍ നിര്‍ത്തി, “ക്ഷ” വരപ്പിച്ചു കുടിശിഖയും പലിശയും, പിഴയും ഈടാക്കാം!”

ഈയടുത്ത ദിവസം ഹൂസ്റ്റണില്‍ താമസമാക്കിയിരിക്കുന്ന തുണ്ടത്തില്‍ ലിസ്സി-ജെയിംസ്‌ ദമ്പതികളുടെ മകന്റെ വിവാഹത്തിനു കാലേകൂട്ടി കണ്ടുവച്ചിരുന്ന പദ്ധതിയനുസരിച്ച് തടസ്സങ്ങള്‍ സൃഷ്ടിച്ചു. ഫലം അപ്രതീക്ഷിതമായിരുന്നു.

ഓര്‍ക്കാപ്പുറത്ത് കിട്ടിയ ഈ അടിയോടെ, വാങ്ങിയ പള്ളികള്‍ നിലനിര്‍ത്തുക എങ്ങിനെയെന്നറിയാതെ പരിഭ്രാന്തിയിലാണ് സഭാനേതൃത്വം.

തുണ്ടത്തില്‍ ദമ്പതികളുടെ നിയമപോരാട്ടത്തിന്റെ കഥ നാളെ മുതല്‍ ക്നാനായ വിശേഷങ്ങളില്‍ ചുരളഴിയുന്നു.

An Open Letter to Fr. Mutholam

Dear Fr. Mutholam

I have been reading your recent messages to the members of Knanaya Community in the United States.

I am afraid you are surrounded by a small caucus of sycophants who prevent you from seeing the reality.  With a humble publication, I am lucky to interact with the intelligent ones in the community and I can assure that we certainly have intellectuals in the community.  With these messages, you are – by spending your own time and energy – proving to the intelligent section that you are not fit to be a priest, let alone a Vicar General.  You are making yourself a laughing stock.

A Christian priest who is supposed to follow the teachings of Jesus Christ should be a role model when it comes to tolerance.  You seem to be totally lacking in that quality.

In the latest message in the Parish Bulletin, you have, using nauseating vocabulary, condemned the new digital media.  But are you not resorting to the same conveniences to spread your own ideas?  The mildest term I know to describe this is Hypocrisy.

You talk about priests who are not able to function in the absence of church buildings.  It is worthwhile to remember Jesus gave his wonderful sermon from a mountain.  Are you all ever able to deliver something comparable to that from the luxurious pulpits of Churches, Cathedrals and Basilicas?

If they cannot function in the given circumstance (with the available facilities), why can’t they just go back from a country where there is no dearth for churches?  In case people get convinced that no priest is better than a bad priest and you are all forced to leave, please remember the way Apostles lived and the horrible way they died in order to establish our Church of which you all are paradoxically a part now.

You put on the robe of a saviour of Knanaya Community in the States.  Do you have the decency, honesty and courage to answer the following simple straightforward questions?

Does saying a holy mass in a building such as a Community Centre pose any ecclesiastic or canonical problem?

Is it a fact that Vatican has categorically denied our wish to import to the States the “tradition” of excluding Knanayas who marry from outside the community?

The membership of Knanaya Missions in USA would be open to non-endogamous Knanayas – True or False.

Who would be the legal owner of the Church our people buy with their hard-earned money?

What would happen to the churches we buy in the event of a section of the Knanaya Community (including the clergy) deciding to leave the Catholic fold to join Knanaya Jacobites in order to continue our traditions?
