Profile of Dominic Chackonal, Candidate for the Position of KCCNA Secretary


Hailing from St. Antony's parish, Marika, Mr. Dominic Chackonal received extensive education spanning various disciplines. He completed schooling from St. James High School, followed by pre-degree from St. Joseph College in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu. Dominic then moved to Chennai, where he finished bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering and the Technical Teachers Training Certification. He obtained Masters Degree in Psychology from Madras University and received specialized training in counselling from Montfort College, Bangalore.  He has attended Senior Managerial training courses at Indian Institute of Management, Ahmedabad, and received degree level education in Theology and Philosophy from Vidyajyothi, New Delhi.

In his professional life, Dominic worked as a teacher, Vice Principal, and Head of Technical Institutions in different parts of India, before moving to Doha, Qatar, where he worked as Advertisement Manager for an English & Arabic Daily News Paper for over 12 years. After moving to USA in 2006 to join his brothers, he is currently in the Gas station business.

Mr. Dominic Chackonal was a member of the Lions Club in Chennai and Rotary club in Panaji.  As a Youth Director, he has conducted many seminars and workshops for college and Higher Secondary school youth. He has also organized several high profile events, such as, tournaments and fund raising programs.

 Serving as President of the Association, Dominic was instrumental in bringing together the Qatar Knanaya families that were not actively participating in the association activities.

 As the Secretary  of Knanaya Catholic Association of Georgia (2009-2010), his love for the Knanaya community was proved  beyond doubt in Atlanta. He spent considerable time and energy for strengthening the Association and making it more meaningful, relevant and attractive to the members.  Very active with youth activities, Dominic Chackonal served as the KCYLNA Director during 2011-2012, and played a major role in successfully organizing the KCYL Youth Summit in Atlanta, in December, 2011.

Dominic married Suni Chaurplavil from Piravom, in 1996 and the couple have three children.

Dominic's well rounded personality is built on the robust foundations of his impressive educational background; experience with children and young adults as head of various educational institutions; and the administrative and management skills he gained from the corporate sector.

With this immense knowledge and experience, Dominic is determined to accomplish the duties & responsibilities of the Secretary of KCCNA diligently, without fear and no siding with any group. His main focus will be in strengthening KCCNA as a credible institution that safeguard the interests of the true Knanaya people, without compromising our basic principles of Endogamy and the importance of the Knanaya Associations.

My Duties and Responsibilities as a KCCNA Secretary is not limited to the following:

Along with my team I will foster UNITY and knanaya CULTURE through our Member Associations.

As one team we will TRUST our young people in this land of Freedom & land of braves and entrust them with responsibilities to organize activities

I BELIEVE, practicing Catholicism in any branch of church is our right and imposing Syro Malabar rite on us is not acceptable.

We work to STOP clergy from harassment & liberate our people from ecclesiastical bondage.

We stand together to get back our PRIDE from Zeros.”CULTURE will lead and religion will follow”.

We stand for fostering Member organization to build Community Center to preserve our identity since Zeros cheated us.

Promoting Member Association to organise quality events & activities in social, Art, cultural, sports, entertainment and civic areas

I promise to FIGHT for our identity as a Knanaites with Zero tolerance on Endogamy.
