Purchase of property at Kodungallur believed to be a part of ancient Mahadevarpattanam.
It is with great pride that we announce the acquisition of a 50 cent property on the water-front at Kodungallur and adjacent to the Government Boat Jetty on the National Waterway at Kottapuram. The property is registered for a value of Rs. 26 Lakhs.

It is believed that this property is situated in the region of the ancient settlement of Mahadevarpattanam of our Knanaya forefathers. In the 16th century, the Portuguese built a fort to protect the Knanaya community there. But after the conquest of Kodungallur by the Dutch in 1662, the fort was downsized. Later, Tipu attacked Kochi to take possession of this fort which was sold to Marthandavarma of Travancore by the Dutch. This area is now occupied by the Latin Christians who replaced our forefathers in the 16th century when they left Kodungallur for Kottayam and Kallissery. The boundary stone demarcating the erstwhile Kochi from Travancore and which gives the boundary of the fort lies adjacent to this property.
The Knanaya Catholic Community had purchased a small property of about 5 cents near the fort and have built a monument in memory of Knai Thoma. The Latin Catholic Community has erected a small chapel close to this monument and have marked out a tomb-stone in memory of Knai Thoma, Mar Joseph of Uraha and other church heads.
The Knanaya Nazarene Academy intends to set up a research center and permanent museum in this property to showcase the rich history of the Knanaya Thekkumbhagor community.

Who bought this beautiful property? Knanaya Jacobites?
ReplyDeleteKnanaya Jacobites bishops are fighting for power, but Knanaya Catholic bishops are trying to destroy knanayam.
Jacobites bishops are much better than Catholics bishops.
It seems the property (half an acre of water-front property) was purchased by "Knanaya Nazarene Academic Research Centre" which is most probably an organisation of the Knanaya Jacobite Laity.
DeletePeople with more information about this Centre, please share your information here with others.
Congratulations to the authorities concerned.
Who owns the 5 cents in Kodungallur? Knanaya Catholic Congress or Kottayam Archdiocese?
They are all the same.. bunch of power hungry sheperds. Just remember the Mercedez and the AD340 no. plate. How many people can you feed with this?
ReplyDeleteThen there are the corrupt Bishops who get caught at the Cochin International Airport with your unaccountable tons of money. They are not going to change.
ReplyDeleteWe have criminal priests, child molesters and crooked bishops who protects them all. Please do not invite these bishops to any Kna functions. As someone in this forum suggested make it a pure lay organization without any crooks.
