രാജാവ് നഗ്നനാണെന്ന് പറയുവാനുള്ള നിഷ്കളങ്കത എല്ലാവര്ക്കുമില്ല എന്നറിയാം. ഒരു പക്ഷെ അതിന്റെ ആവശ്യവും ഇല്ലായിരിക്കും, എന്നാലും അഭിവന്ദ്യ മൂലക്കാട്ട് പിതാവ് സമുദായത്തിനുപുറത്തുനിന്നുള്ള വിവാഹത്തെയും അനുബന്ധ വിഷയങ്ങളെയും കുറിച്ച് നടത്തിയ അഭിപ്രായപ്രകടനവും തുടര്ന്ന് സമുദായത്തിലുണ്ടായ പ്രതികരണങ്ങളും സാമാന്യ ജനങ്ങളുടെ ചിന്തയിലേക്ക് വരേണ്ടതല്ലേ എന്നൊരു എളിയ അഭിപ്രായം എനിക്കുണ്ട് പിതാവിന്റെ അഭിപ്രായത്തിനെതിരായി വാളോങ്ങിയവര്ക്കു അതിനുള്ള അര്ഹതഉണ്ടായിരിക്കും. അവരുടെ വാദം ശരിയുമായിരിക്കും. പിതാവായതുകൊണ്ട് പറയുന്നതെല്ലാം ശരിയായിരിക്കും എന്നൊരു മുന്വിധിയുമില്ല.
എങ്കിലും ഒരു മഹത്തായ പാരമ്പര്യവും അതിലുറച്ച ദൈവവിശ്വാസവും കൈമുതലായുള്ള ഒരു സമുദായം കാലത്തിനും ലോകത്തിനും അനുസരിച്ച് ജീവിക്കേണ്ടതല്ലേ. അതുകൊണ്ടല്ലേ എല്ലാ നിയമങ്ങള്ക്കും ഭരണഘടനകള്ക്കും കാലോചിതമായ ഭേദഗതികളുണ്ടാകുന്നത്. അതല്ലേ സംസ്കാരത്തിന്റെയും വിദ്യാഭ്യാസത്തിന്റെയും ചിന്താശേഷിയുടെയും ഒക്കെ ബാക്കിപത്രം.
അഭിപ്രായം പറയുവാനുള്ള അവകാശം പിതാവിനും, എതിര്ക്കാനുള്ള സ്വാതന്ത്ര്യം മറ്റുള്ളവര്ക്കുമുള്ളത് അഗീകരിച്ചുകൊണ്ടുതന്നെ എന്റെ ചില അഭിപ്രായങ്ങള് പങ്കുവയ്ക്കട്ടെ.
ക്നാനായ വികാരമെന്ന പേരില് കഴിഞ്ഞ ദിവസങ്ങളില് ചില നേതാക്കള് നടത്തിയ പ്രതികരണങ്ങളും പ്രകടനങ്ങളും അനുചിതവും അരോചകവും ആയിരുന്നില്ലേ? ക്നാനായ വികാരത്തിന്റെ മൊത്തം മനസാക്ഷി സൂക്ഷിപ്പുകാരായി രംഗത്ത് വന്നവര് ഇരുട്ടുകൊണ്ട് ഓട്ട അടയ്ക്കുവാന് ശ്രമിക്കുകയായിരുന്നില്ലേ? നിങ്ങള് പറഞ്ഞ കാര്യങ്ങള് എല്ലാ ക്നാനായക്കാരുടെയും വികാരമാണെന്ന് എന്താണൊരു ഉറപ്പ്? പിതാവ് പറഞ്ഞതിനോട് യോജിപ്പുള്ളവര് ഇല്ല എന്ന് എങ്ങനെ അറിയാം? .യോജിക്കുന്നവര് ഉണ്ടെങ്കില് അവരുടെ താല്പ്പര്യം ആര് സംരക്ഷിക്കും? .സാമാന്യ നീതി അവര്ക്കും കിട്ടേണ്ടതല്ലേ? പ്രശ്നങ്ങളെ സഹിഷ്ണുതയോടെ കാണുന്നതല്ലേ ഉചിതം? ചെറിയ തീപ്പൊരികളാണ് വലിയ പൊട്ടിത്തെറികളില് എത്തിയിട്ടുള്ളത്. തുടക്കം മുതല് നിലനില്ക്കുന്ന ആചാരങ്ങളും നടപടികളും മാറ്റുവാന് തീരുമാനിക്കുമ്പോള് ആവശ്യമായ ആലോചനകള് ഉണ്ടാവണം. ആലോചിക്കേണ്ട എല്ലാവരോടും ആലോചിക്കണം. അഭിപ്രായ ഐഖ്യം ഉണ്ടാകണം. അതിനു പകരം സമുദായത്തിന് മൊത്തം അപമാനകരമാകുന്ന നടപടികള് ഉണ്ടാകരുത്. എല്ലാവരെയും കൂട്ടി യോജിപ്പിച്ചുകൊണ്ട് പോകേണ്ടത് സഭയുടെ അധികാരികളും സംഘടനയുടെ നേതാക്കളുമൊക്കെയാണ്. സമൂഹമധ്യത്തില് പിതാവിനെ അവഹേളിക്കാന് ശ്രമിക്കരുതായിരുന്നു. സമുദായത്തോട് സ്നേഹവും ആത്മാര്ത്ഥതയുമുള്ളവര് ഇങ്ങനെ വിഴുപ്പലക്കാതെ സങ്കീര്ണമാകുന്ന വിഷയങ്ങളില് എല്ലാ സമുദായ അംഗങ്ങളുടെയും അഭിപ്രായം അറിയുന്നതിന് ശ്രമിക്കണം
പിതാവ് പറഞ്ഞതിനെക്കുറിച്ചു ലോകത്തിന്റെ വിവിധ ഭാഗങ്ങളിലെ എഴുപതിലേറെ രാജ്യങ്ങളിലായി ജീവിക്കുന്ന ക്നാനായ കുടുംബങ്ങളുടെ പൊതുവായ അഭിപ്രായം അറിയുന്നതിനുള്ള ഒരു ശ്രമം നടത്തണം ഏറ്റവും ചുരുങ്ങിയ സമയംകൊണ്ട് നിഷ്പക്ഷവും സ്വതന്ത്രവും വിശ്വാസ്യവും ആയ രീതിയില് അത് അറിയുവാനുള്ള എല്ലാ സംവിധാനവും ഇന്ന് നിലവിലുണ്ടല്ലോ. സമുദായവുമായി ബന്ധമുള്ള എല്ലാ സംഘടനകളും ഇതിനു വേണ്ടതൊക്കെ ചെയ്യണം .
ഭൂരിപക്ഷം പറയുന്നത് നടപ്പിലാക്കാനോ ന്യുനപക്ഷത്തെ തള്ളിക്കളയുവാനോ ആവരുത് ഈ അഭിപ്രായ ശേഖരണം. അങ്ങനെയൊന്നു നടന്നാല് പുതിയ കാലത്തിന്റെ ചുവരെഴുത്ത് നമുക്ക് കാണുവാന് കഴിയും. അതിനനുസരിച്ച് തെറ്റുണ്ടെങ്കില് തിരുത്തുവാനും ശരിയായത് അങ്ങനെതന്നെ എന്നുറപ്പിക്കാനും കഴിയും. അതാണ് ഏതു പരിഷ്കൃത സമൂഹത്തിന്റെയും ചുമതല.
നിലവില് നമ്മുടെ കുടുംബങ്ങളില് നിന്നും എത്രപേര് ഇതര മതസ്ഥരേയോ മറ്റു സമുദായ അംഗങ്ങളെയോ വിവാഹം കഴിച്ചിട്ടുണ്ട് എന്നൊരു കണക്കെടുപ്പുനടത്തി അതെക്കുറിച് ഒരു പഠനം നടത്തണം. നിവൃത്തികേടുകൊണ്ടുമാത്രം മറ്റൊരു വഴിയുമില്ലഞ്ഞിട്ടു മറ്റു സമുദായങ്ങളില്നിന്നും വിവാഹം കഴിക്കേണ്ടി വന്നുപോയ, ക്നാനായവികാരം ഇപ്പോഴും മനസ്സില് സൂക്ഷിക്കുന്ന ഒരു വിഭാഗത്തിന്റെ ഹൃദയവേദനയോടു മനുഷ്യത്വപരമായ ഒരു സമീപനം വേണ്ടതല്ലേ?
ഈ വിഷയങ്ങളൊക്കെ ചര്ച്ച ചെയ്യേണ്ടതാണെന്ന് പലരും സ്വകാര്യമായി പറയാറുണ്ട്. വാളെടുക്കുന്നവരൊക്കെ വെളിച്ചപ്പാടാവുന്നവര്ക്കിടയില് പക്ഷെ രാജാവ് നഗ്നനാണെന്ന് പറയുവാനുള്ള ആര്ജവം നമുക്കില്ലാതെ പോകുന്നു..
Church leadership should always keep clarity in their while they they make decisions.Do anybody know what Moolakkat Mutholam and Angadiyath decisioni 2004 before knanaya missions merging under the syro malabar diocese. To establish churches and diocese they played some foul game. This is the after effect of that.

Why endogamy is not allowed in USA. ?
This is because Syros wants to destroy Knanayam. Some of our clergies are joined the enemies. They like to destroy our thanima and ethnicity.. Many of these clergies are here because of Knanayam. Many of the clergies are joining the enemies because for US visa; Their Green card must be sponsered by Angadi. It is same like Kana married outside for US visa, or money. These clergies are cutting the branch in which they are sitting; they are selling the Knanaya ethnicity for their own benefits.
We should stop these people from destroying our community for their personal benefit. This is each and every Knanaya person's duty. It is the time to organize ourselves and stand against this injustice.
No doubt Knanaya only for endogamous knanaya . God Almighty is surely going to bless his own CHOSEN PEOPLE.Be strong &courageous.Its time to show our Unity.

At several places it has seen that people talking badly on Endogamy of Kottayam Archdiocese. They should understand, no such topic is there. Our Archbishop has already said the Endogamy of our Archdiocese will continue same as is - so the topic everyone should talk and think should be :: how it is possible that same Knanites in Kerala & North America but with different policy or rules?!

ReplyDeleteKerala Church History before the arrival of the Portugese is an area of total darkness. People could say anything and get away with it. Knanaya history is primarily based on Chazhikadan’s book. What is that book based on?
So, Kaipuzhakkaran has made his version of history. I don’t know if I can agree with him or not.
However, there are a few points on which I would be glad to get further clarifications.
“In those days only men could travel by ships, especially in long voyages to unknown lands.” If that statement is true, how did the Jewish settlement materialise in Cochin?
I doubt there was an explosion in the population of Syrian Christians after the English came. Here, there is some obvious confusion. After the CMS Missionaries arrived two different kinds of conversion happened. Majority were from, as Kaipuzhakkaran rightly says, the lower caste and untouchable (non-christian)sections of Kerala society. But a few Syrian Christians also joined the Anglicans.
However, those Syrian Christians who joined the Anglican Church (known during those days as CMS Church, and now CSI Church) practically remained as a separate entity. They call themselves CSI Syrian Christians. Those who got converted from non-Christian sections were known as members of CSI Church. Now, a sizeable of them have joined the CMS Church.
In other words, the population of “Syrian Christians” did not undergo any dramatic increase.
Talking about St. Thomas and conversion from Namboothiri community, let us laugh it away. Modern history has convincingly proved that Namboothiries migrated to Kerala between 8th and 11th centuries. Pope Benedict 16 has said that St. Thomas never came to Kerala. In the absence of a higher authority than Pope, it is high time we should stop talk about St. Thomas converting people and establishing churches in Kerala.
Nevertheless go on - if it pleases some of you.

Jews have been around for a long time along these coasts. We have records of Abraham Ben Yiju who had come from Tunisia via Cairo and Aden in 1018 of the common Era, who might have even married a local Malayalee girl and taken his children back with him. Pardesi was the generic name given to all traders, arabs, jews and gujeratis, who were prominent amongst them.
The synagogue which is under trusteeship is the oldest synagogue is the British Commonwealth and still has services when the necessary quorum could be found. It is an architectural delight to hold, with chandeliers and chinese tiles, hebrew letterings, the bimah in the centre from where the torah would be read. The Jewish history goes much further than this synagagogue which is relatively recent comparing the fact that jews were here around the first century of the common era. there are other synagogues in cochin, one near by and the others in Ernakulam, Chendamangalam, Parur and Mala. The oldest evidence of hebrew writing in India is ascribed to a tomb at chendamangalam from about 8th century CE."
If you look at the Indian cultural situation, Indian people are strict endogamous with respect to their castes. See the Nairs only marry the Nairs, Ezhavas only marry Ezhavas, Syriac Christians only marry Syriac Christians and similarly, the Southists only marry Southists. Even when Syro Malabars are in catholic communion for about 400 years, still SMC-Latin marriages are very rare. This is due to the strong caste feeling in the Indian community. Many communities have practices of out casting the members even today for various reasons, but due to public outcry and legal issues, it is not usually publicised. Those members will not get support from their caste hierarchy; will not get the “desakkuri” for marriage etc.
ReplyDeleteYou have to remember, until 1900 period, Syrian Christians were also proud to say we are a caste- eg. Nidheerickal Mani Kathanaar and Nasrani jathi aikya sangham-(Society for Nasrani caste Unity.). The Arch deacon was the “jathikku karthavyan”- administrator of the caste. So, I am not too surprised about the practice of endogamy which is a reality even today in all communities in Kerala.
Re. very strict endogamous practice among Southist community-
As all know, Southists and Northists among the Syriac Christians of Malabar behaved like two castes. Hence they were two castes with the same religion and hence endogamous within their castes. There are suggestions that Southists were considered a bit inferior to Northists in the past-( ref. Sloane MS 2743 dated AD1676 kept in British Museum, London, Letter sent from Northists of the Vicariat of Changanacherry to Rome against the Southist Bishop Mar Makil) As Southists were a very small community, and there were no other Christian community around, they became strictly endogamous within that small community.
100 years ago, no one in Keralan Society can think about intercaste marriages. In the modern world, after the social renaissance in Kerala especially with teachings of Sri Narayana Guru etc against caste system and its evils and promoting inter caste marriages, things are a little bit improved now, but still I would say, intercaste and inter religious marriages are rare.
Now, it may be the later day attempts of Southists to redefine and justify the reasons for endogamy is creating stories to project them Jewish pure blood and strict rules to out caste the members if they marry from other communities. Projecting superior is a basic instinct of Indians where caste feeling is inborn in their blood. Every group is projecting themselves superior and push the rest as inferior. The best example is the Northist claim of Brahmin origin.
Re Syrian christian DNA project. I am still very sceptical about this project. This project doesn’t have a control group. Unless it is proved that the rest of the Keralan Community doesn’t have the so called specific Jewish DNAs, then only we can say that this results are unique for Syriac Christians.
First thing to prove is that the presence of Jewish DNAs among Northists is statistically significant comparing to the rest of Keralan community
The argument that specific Jewish DNAs are not reported in Southists yet should also be taken considering statistical principles. Comparing the population of Northists and Southists, how many Southists should be tested against a specific number of Northists to compare the results to show that this finding is statistically significant?
I do not consider having Jewish or Brahmin DNAs is something great. The Christian churches are not ethnic groups, but they are groups with different traditions and rituals due to the experience of Christianity in a certain cultural milieu. ( Arch Bishop Joseph Powathil) Northists and Southists are same in this context. There were attempts by Nidheerickal Mani Kathanaar with the support of prominent Southist leaders to slowly amalgamate both Communities but that failed.
Knai Thommaen was obviuosly not a good man in the sense that he was not a true believer of teh teachings of Lord Jesus Christ. Being a Christian he had an illicit affair with a washerwoman. He had become a nominal Christian. He called himself Christian yet he was holding on to Jewish heritage and would not give up the ‘Old Law’ and Mosaic customs like many of Lord’s disciples and others which itself was a cause of schism between Paul and other apostles. Paul opposed Peter in the face when he started endorsing James’s (Lord’s brother) view that early christians had to be circumcised in order to become true christians. Paul empasised in his teachings taht chritians are under a new law as the old law had paased away with the sacrifice of Lord Jesus Christ on teh cross of Calvary.
ReplyDeleteKnai Thommen was a merchant and his building of ‘Seven and half’ churches with his money had nothing to do with missionary zeal and the advancement of the Christ’s gospel. It was only to show the local already available christians who were true believers (converted by St. Thomas) his muscle and money power and then try to subdue them with the ‘imported’ teachings to them. The original believers simply had to move away and gather elsewhere because of the imported teachings that Knai Thommen was trying to Impose on them through the new churches built by him. His people got a taste of his own medicine later when teh Portugese held a Synod at ‘Udayamperoor’ in the15th century with the help of teh King of Cochin and forced all christians in Kerala to follow the Pope!!
In the 1st Century itself in Antioch the converted Jewish Christians were facing persecution by the Romans probabl;y instigated by the ‘Other Jewish’ and moved away to Hedessah which was part of the Persian/Babylonian empire and is now in Iraq. Jewish Christians later had to flee Hedessah when Catholic percecution widened and affcted them and probably around the same time Knai Thommen informed them of that faraway land called ‘Muziris’ where Jewish had been settling in peace from King Solomon’s times and which now also had a settlement of Jews and locals converted to Christioanity by Lord’s own disciple St. Thomas.
Their route to Kerala was the well traveresed ancient route along the river Tigris/Euphrates reaching what is now the area of Kuwait/river mouth of ‘Shaat al Arab’ to the Arabian Gulf and the Ahwaz side of Pesia where historically Jewish people were treated good for centuries, along waht is now Pakistan, supping and rejoicing with the believers converted by St. Thomas there, probably also stopping by in What is now Gujrat and seeing christians there, then to Kerala.
What they did after reaching Kerala in anybody’s guess.

Later came more Jewish Christian converts to Kerala to settle. Chaldea Syrians are Jewish Christians and came from Persia but their stock is Jewish.
The real Jewish ‘Jewish’ migrated to Kerala from Spain fleeing from Inquisition and from Baghdad and other places only after the 14th century. They were anyway European and of mid Esatern pure stock and kept themselves pure throughout and had settled in Chendamangalam and also ‘Saudi’ in Fort Cochin (before it became Fort Cochin while it was still with Chendamangalam Paliyam). When Fort Cochin area was given to teh Portugese by the Paliath Achan they persecuted the Jewish living in Saudi and all of them ran to the mattancherry palace of teh King of Cochin looking for shelter and they were given a place to stay in and around the old palace area. (The Dutch later built teh mattancherry palace for teh King of Cochin). They also built a Synagogue there and this in my knowledge never ever entertained brown Jews to come and worshup there.
പണ്ട് ഒരു ശരാശരി forign മലയാളിയുടെ ആസ്തി 40 - 60 ലക്ഷം ഇന്ത്യന് രൂപയായിരുന്നു . അന്ന് നാട്ടില് പോയി ഇതുകൊസുത്താല് 15 ഏക്കര് സ്ഥലവും ഒരു പുരയും കിട്ടുമായിരുന്നു, അന്ന് ഒരു ശരാശരി കത്തോലിക്കന്റെ ആസ്തി രണ്ടോ മൂന്നോ ലങ്ക്ഷമായിരുന്നു . അന്ന് അവിടെ പള്ളി, പള്ളി മുറി ,ഹാള്,ആതുര സേവനം ...... പണിക്കും, അന്ന് വിദേശി മലയാളി കൊടുത്തിരുന്നത് ന്യായമായിരുന്നു .
ReplyDeleteഇന്ന് അവസ്ഥയൊക്കെ മാറി , നാട്ടില് ഒരു ശരാശരി കത്തോലിക്കന്റെ ആസ്തി രണ്ടോ മൂന്നോ കോടിയായിമാറി . ഇന്ന് വിദേശ മലയാളിയുടെയോ പഴയപടി 40 - 60 ലക്ഷം ഇന്ത്യന് രൂപയില് തന്നെ നില്ക്കുന്നു. ഇനിയും നാട്ടിലെ , പള്ളി, പള്ളി മുറി ,ഹാള്, കെട്ടിടം പള്ളി, പള്ളി മുറി ,ഹാള്,...... പണിക്കും ആതുര സേവനം ...... മുതലായവയ്ക്കും വിദേശമലയാളികളെ പിഴിയുന്ന പരിപാടി തികഞ്ഞ അനീതിയാണ്,. നാമോരുരുത്തരും ഇത് മനസിലാക്കി നാട്ടിലെ ഇടവകക്കാരുടെയും , പള്ളിയുടെ സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളുടെ ഗുണഭോക്താക്കളില് നിന്നും പിരിക്കുവാന് , അവരോടെ ആവശ്യപ്പെടെണ്ട സമയം കഴിഞ്ഞു . മാത്രമല്ല പണ്ട് നമുക്ക് ഇവിടെ പള്ളിക്ക് ഒന്നും കൊടുക്കേണ്ടായിരുന്നു , ഇന്ന് ശരാശരി കത്തോലിക്കന് 1000 - 3000 വരെ വിദേശ നാണയം പലയിനത്തില് പള്ളികക്ക് കൊടുക്കേണ്ടതായി ഉണ്ട് . അതിനാല് , നാട്ടില് നിന്നും നിര്ബന്ധിച്ചു പിരിക്കുന്നത് നിര്ത്തലാക്കെണ്ടാതാകുന്നു. ഇസ്ട്ടമുള്ളവര് കൊടുത്തുകൊള്ളട്ടെ . പിരിക്കുവാന് വരുന്ന ഓരോരുത്തരോടും താങ്കളുടെ ആസ്തിയുടെ ഒരു ശതമാനം കൊടുത്തിട്ട് എന്റെയടുത്ത് വരാന് പറയാന് ചങ്കൂറ്റം ഉണ്ടാവണം . അല്ലായെങ്കില് ഈ ചൂഷണം തുടരും. തടിച്ച മടിശീലയും, ശുഷ്കിച്ച തലച്ചോറുമുള്ള കുറെ പ്രാഞ്ചിയെട്ടന്മാരുടെ പ്രവര്ത്തികള് കാരണം, ഒരു സാധാ അമേരിക്കക്കാരന്റെ സ്ഥിതി ധുസഹമായിരിക്കുകയാണ്.
കിടങ്ങൂര് ഇടവകയില് ഉള്ളാ പള്ളി സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളില് ജോലിചെയ്യുന്നവരും , രൂപതയുടെ മറ്റു സ്ഥാപനങ്ങളില് ജോലി ചെയ്യുന്ന ഓരോ വ്യക്തികളും , കഴിഞ്ഞ പത്തു വര്ഷം കൊണ്ട് അഞ്ചു മുതല് പത്തു ലക്ഷം രൂപവരെ പ്രതിഫലം പറ്റിയിട്ടുണ്ട്. അടുത്ത പത്തു വര്ഷത്തില് ഇതില് കൂടുതല് പറ്റുകയും ചെയ്യും. ഈ ഗുണഭോക്താക്കളില് നിന്നും ഓരോ മാസത്തെ ശമ്പളം ഇങ്ങനെയുള്ള ആവശ്യത്തിനു ഈടാക്കെണ്ടാതാണ്. വിദേശമലയളിയുടെ വിയര്പ്പില് നിന്നും ഇനിയും അപ്പം ഭക്ഷിക്കാന് നോക്കാതെ സ്വയമായി സ്വരൂപിക്കുക.

അനീതി അവസാനിപ്പിക്കുക . ഇടവകക്കാരുടെ എല്ലാവരുടെയും ആസ്തിയുടെ അര ശതമാനം എങ്കിലും വാങ്ങിച്ചിട്ട് , വിദേശികളില് നിന്നും പിരിവു തുടങ്ങുക . ഇന്നും ഒരു പണിയും ചെയ്യാതെ അവിടെ മുതലാളിമാരായി വാഴുന്നവര് , പണിയെടുക്കുന്നവരെ ബുദ്ധിമുട്ടിക്കതിരിക്കുക . ഒരു കോടി ആസ്തിയുള്ളവര്ക്ക് ഒന്നും കൊടുക്കാന് പറ്റില്ലെങ്കില് , അത്രയും ആസ്തിയില്ലാത്ത വിദേശി എന്തിനു കൊടുക്കണം? എല്ലാക്കാലവും വിഡ്ഢികളാക്കാന് പറ്റുന്ന കുറെ പൊങ്ങച്ചക്കാരെ മാത്രം പിഴിയുക. സ്നേഹത്തോടെ ഒരു പഴയ ഇടവകംഗം.
