Reply to New York Yuvajanavedi Article.

If Bishop Moolakkatil and the Knanaya priests do not  want Knanaya people to continue the practice of endogamy, why should Yuvajanavedi worry? They are the authorities and you are only supposed to pay, pray and obey. Kottayam diocese is built on endogamy; allowing the mixed group into Knanaya will eventually (in very near future) make Kottayam diocese equal to Syromalabar. Slowly the Syro servants of God will just eliminate the endogamy part and thus Knanaya itself. Our bishops and priests know this very well.  But, unfortunately, their love towards money is more than their love towards the community.

If you send letters (complaints) to the Bishops Council and to Rome without the support of your own bishop, how far will it go? You guys will be wasting your time by doing that.

Since  Priests and Bishops do not have children of their own how can they know your worries about children? Even if they know it, why should they care about your children?

Money and power are their life and children.  Only when that is in danger or threatened, then only they will act. But if you really want to see some action, want them to respectfully listen to  you, stop going to the Knanaya and Syromalabar church completely for at least a few months. When you stop paying the dues and start going to Latin churches, they will come after you. Other wise you will loose both your money and the Knanaya endogamy. What happens to a plant when the water supply is cut off?

Unless and until you do that, you will be wasting your breath. Latin diocese is also under the same Pope and their prayers also reach heaven. Latin priests are more decent and respect you even though they are not Knanaya or Syros.

Again, the church says they have nothing to do with endogamy. Only married couples and their children can continue it.  And so you can practice and continue your endogamy whether you go to Syromalabar church or Latin church! You do not need Syromalabar to continue endogamy and your children will love that. Keep up the Knanaya fellowship through our associations for the sake of endogamy for your children.

Marrying inside Kna community has its togetherness. Don't just imagine that those who married outside Knanaya community, barring a few,  are unhappy .  All those Knas who married outside (non- Kna, non-Indian) are living their life just like millions of others on this earth. That is not the end of the world and the world still revolves. Respect those who happen to marry outside knanaya for their own reasons. There are good and bad people both among knas and non-knas. Respect everyone and Latin church also.

Good luck and it is nice to see Yuvajanavedi's energy and enthusiasm. Hope you can keep that up for a long time. The authorities think that you guys will not hold that for too long.  Prove them wrong!

Best wishes,

Joe Mathew
